Mr. Donald L. Gessner aged 79, of Grand Rapids, a US Naval Korean War Veteran, was received into the arms of his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Sunday 17, 2010. Loving husband, father, grandpa and great grandpa. Surviving are his wife of 57 years Margaret, 13 children Leanne (Jack) Schipper, Donald Gessner Jr., Terry Gessner, Margaret Riesenbeck, Scott Gessner, Christine (Greg) Bugbee, Cindy (Reggie) VandenBosch, Theresa Patterson, Patrick Gessner, James Gessner, Paul (Nicole) Gessner, Gerard (Lisa) Gessner, Michael (Tanisha) Gessner; 33 grandchildren, 7 great grandchildren; 1 sister Dorothy Truszkowski, 2 brothers Ted (Pat) Gessner of Oregon, Jack (Vera) Gessner; many nieces and nephews, in-laws Diane Gessner, Douglas Duckett, Fred (Joy) Sobczak, Mary Jane (Don) Oshinski, Joseph Sobczak, Larry (Pam) Sobczak, Arthur (Carol) Sobczak. He was preceded in death by parents Theodore and Jessie, brother Howard, 2 sisters Marion Hanke and Rose Marie Duckett. He was a member of VFW, past President of Parents Club of Holy Spirit School, formerly active and involved in Parochiade and the Holy Spirit School representative. Donald retired from General Motors in 1992 after 30 years of service. He was very active in politics, having run for city commissioner, and was a former Kent County drain commissioner. He was an avid golfer, bowler and farmer. Donald was a Member of Holy Spirit Church, where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Friday at 10:00 am. He will repose in church one hour prior to Mass. Interment Rosedale Memorial Park. The family will receive visitors Thursday 2:00 to 4:00 and 7:00 to 9:00 pm at the Arsulowicz Brothers, Remembrance Mortuary, 3525 Remembrance Rd, where a Rosary will be prayed Thursday at 8:30 pm. Memorial contributions to Holy Spirit Education Foundation or Diocese of Grand Rapids Haiti Disaster Relief Effort will be appreciated.
