Wigda, Teddy J.

WIGDA — Teddy John Wigda, age 86, went to be with his Lord on Sunday, May 9, 2010, surrounded by his loving family. He was born July 2, 1923 in Grand Rapids, Michigan, attended St. Isidore Elementary School and was a graduate of Catholic Central High School. He married Mary Teresa Jasiak on June 5, 1948. Ted and Mary embraced 61 beautiful years of marriage and raised 3 children in a home filled with love. Mary had sadly preceded him in death on August 6, 2009. Ted is survived by his loving children, Christine (Eric) VanDerVeen, Patricia (Ted) Dimke, and Frank (Julie) Wigda. He was preceded in death by his infant son, Joseph; parents, Burt and Stephania Wigda; brother, Henry; sister, Mildred Cook; and sister, Mona Marshall. Ted served his country in the U.S. Army Air Corps in Europe during WWII. He was a Fireman for the City of Grand Rapids for 28 years, he has answered his final alarm. Ted also gave freely of his gifts as a fine finishing carpenter and home builder. Throughout his life, Ted built several homes for his family, helped friends with home building and remodeling, and did numerous handyman projects. We are blessed to have these lasting reminders of his beautiful carpentery work. A true lover of the outdoors, Ted was an avid trout fisherman and deer hunter. He especially enjoyed spending time at the cabin he built and so loved on Luther Pond along the Little Manistee River in Luther, Michigan. His own little piece of heaven he shared with family and friends! Those who knew and loved Ted will cherish many wonderful memories. The great meals he would prepare as the "chef" for his fellow fireman at Engine House Number 6, acting as Santa Clause during the holidays at the Polish halls, and entertaining many as a clown in the July 4th parades on Michigan Ave. He had a great sense of humor and never missed the opportunity to sing Happy Birthday to his family members on their birthdays. He will be sadly missed. Ted was a long time parishioner of St. Alphonsus Church and would also attend masses at St. Isidore's Church and St. Jude's Church. In the spirit of Ted's lifelong devotion to the Catholic Church, memorial contributions can be made to the Dominican Sisters-Grand Rapids, 2025 Fulton St. East, Grand Rapids, MI 49503-3895. The family expresses their heartfelt gratitude to Dr. Cindy Bos of the Grand Rapids Veterans Administration Hospital and Dr. Rajappa and the staff of Spectrum Health Blodgett Hospital Acute Care of the Elderly for their wonderful care.
